  Introduction

Keeping in mind the diverse aspects of the journalism industry, the course Journalism in English is designed to give the students an in depth understanding of the subject. The course is intensive as it covers print, online, radio and television. The curriculum is tailored to develop the skills of the students and also their intellect, gradually with the progression of the course. It is done to make each journalist understand his or her own unique and special area of interest and pursue the area ahead in that.

To achieve this, accent is laid simultaneously on theory and its practical application of the key elements of the subject. The practical is done in the form of small projects and the they are then critically evaluated. This is central to make learning more meaningful as it is better understood with hands on experience. This reflects in building self confidence and motivation to pursue one’s own area of interest and develop the perseverance to take the hardship that comes with it.

During the year, students are expected to attend and participate in film festivals, symposiums and seminars and report on them for a first hand exposure on how to work as a journalist. They are also encouraged to utilise the website of the institution to post their reports, thoughts and features so as they can extend their reach beyond campus barrier and receive feedback from likeminded people around the world. The journalism class also has a wall paper that students prepare.

Regular sessions on counselling, stress management, positive thinking and leadership capabilities are conducted to develop the personality of students who come in from varied backgrounds.
